The site was chosen by Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe-Langenburg to build the exclusive Marbella Club Hotel, which since its opening in the 50s has attracted a very prestigious international clientele, transforming the traditional fishing village into one of the most fashionable tourist destinations worldwide, a condition which is still prevailing. In the 1970s, due to the growing popularity of the region, the Puente Romano Hotel was built, which was later acquired by Mouffaque Al Midani. Standing out on the mountainside is the Marbella Mosque, officially known as the King Abdul Aziz Mosque, designed by Spanish architect Juan Mora Urbano in 1981. Nearby is a huge palace complex, the summer royal residence of Saudi Arabia. Surprisingly well hidden despite its size, this is the largest private home in Marbella and one of the largest in Spain.
